Candle of Hope Foundation (COHF) marked the World Day Against Trafficking in Personsat the Namanga border between Kenya and Tanzania. By bringing together stakeholders, we addressed cross-border trafficking challenges, amplifying the call for united action.
COHF hosted the 2024 Beyond Awareness Conference, focusing on eradicating child prostitution and pornography. The event fostered collaborations, driving the collective mission to safeguard children and create an exploitation-free world.
Joining the Brave Movement, COHF advanced efforts to combat childhood sexual violence in Kenya. Our initiatives focus on creating safe environments for children, ensuring their protection from exploitation.
Better Migration Management (BMM), in collaboration with GIZ under the (BMM3) initiative, implemented a targeted communication strategy to combat human trafficking along transit routes in Kenya. This innovative project focused on addressing trafficking issues within the local public transport sector, commonly known asmatatus, in Nairobi and the northern regions of Kenya. To raise awareness and equip the public with actionable information, the strategy included the distribution of IEC materials such as headrests and information pamphlets featuring guidelines on identifying trafficking victims and hotline numbers for reporting. This initiative aimed to empower communities to recognize and respond to trafficking incidents and fostering safer transit environments.
In September 2024, during the 2nd Regional Africa Review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Executive Director, Nimo Ali, proudly represented COHF on a distinguished panel. She highlighted Kenya’s national implementation strategies and shared valuable insights into migration governance, demonstrating COHF’s leadership and commitment to fostering safe, orderly, and regular migration across the region.
COHF was highlighted by the United Nations Network on Migration for driving change in migration and human trafficking prevention. Through grassroots initiatives and partnerships, we champion long-term solutions to empower communities and ensure inclusive migration policies.
In marginalized areas like Eastleigh, COHF conducted transformative art sessions, merging creative expression with skill-building. This initiative empowered women and youth, offering avenues for resilience and livelihood opportunities.
At the launch of the Network Against Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants (NAHUSOM), COHF’s Executive Director emphasized collaborative efforts to counter trafficking in Kenya, highlighting the importance of victim support mechanisms.
COHF’s work was spotlighted by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, highlighting our initiatives for safe journeys for women and girls, showcasing our global leadership in empowering vulnerable groups.

Candle of Hope Foundation (COHF), in partnership with FAO Kenya, implemented a livelihoods project targeting 1,000 households (500 in Makueni County and 500 in Kitui County). The project aimed to enhance food security, improve nutrition, and build resilience through cone garden establishment and training on good agricultural practices (GAP) and value addition.
The cone garden initiative demonstrates a sustainable approach to food security and nutrition. Through effective training and community involvement, COHF and FAO Kenya have empowered vulnerable households, enhancing their resilience and well-being.

COHF’s Executive Director visited the Somaliland Nursing and Midwifery Association (SLNMA), exploring innovative healthcare strategies to enhance services in Somaliland. This partnership highlights our commitment to improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Delivering prevention training at the University of Hargeisa and to local NGOs. The training will focus on identifying trafficking victims, referral mechanisms, and legal frameworks, strengthening the fight against human trafficking in the region.
The Candle of Hope Foundation, in partnership with FAO Somalia, implemented fisheries and nutrition interventions in Somaliland, significantly improving food security, livelihoods, and resilience for vulnerable communities.
In Burao, 50 households received fisheries inputs and training, enhancing income opportunities and skills. In Berbera, 1,000 beneficiaries received cash transfers, while 300 were trained in capture fisheries and 700 in post-harvest management.
Nutrition training reached 872 households through 40 trained champions. These efforts boosted household resilience, income, and nutrition, fostering long-term sustainability.
Candle of Hope Foundation (CoHF) is a multi-faceted women-led organization that has been operational in Kenya and Somaliland since 2016 implementing humanitarian & development initiatives through community-initiated programs that enhance empowerment, sustainability and resilience.
